Meaning of the Design
This sweatshirt is my second addition to our Love4Japan Fundraiser line. The writing on the chest, "Nippon Banzai!" translates to "Long Live Japan!" and the Kanji printed on the sleeve translates to “Everlasting peace”. Further, the meaning of “Peaceful Soul “and “Brave Friend”, enclosed by “Everlasting Harmony” is presented by the characters on the front.
Unified, the writing conveys the wearer’s message that he/ she appears as a Brave Friend with a Peaceful Soul and opens his/ her palms to offer everlasting harmony. What wraps around the wearer of this sweatshirt is a shield of compassion.
Each year, a cascade of (natural) disasters spreads across the earth and hurts people; devastates people. When Japan was struck by the disastrous Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami in March ’11, its people scanned the horizon for hope and the unfortunate news reached out to millions of people in an instant through many social media platforms. It reached out to people afar from all of the cruelty and ugliness that manifests in this world, to people who are able to recognize the suffering of others and truly wish for their suffering to be eased. These are people who offer themselves as a friend to those affected victims and strangers. We are able to gather a grand amount of such people thanks to the rapidly moving world we live in today. Thus, I strongly believe that people are capable of being compassionate towards all the people, disregarding of their beliefs, gender or nationality.
Japan sought for hope and it was granted to its people through human compassion that has helped the country to see its sun rise again. Nippon Banzai! Japan, may you live ten thousand years (and more). You are blessed with world-wide friends who are shielded with compassion.
